Simultaneously opening its doors as Dongan Luxemporium, an event we’ve covered in a previous post, sister establishment Luxemporium is nestled in the same redeveloped block of real estate on Wangfujing Street, a popular shopping thoroughfare near the illustrious grounds of the Forbidden City. Stocking fashion of a different segment, the 371 sqm. (3,993 sq.ft.) store features a different interior design by the same Shanghai-based architecture practice, All Design Studio. Although clean and understated, the chosen design codes also subtly reference Asian elements, and it starts right at the open, gate-like entrance. Another nod is the ceiling design which sees a simplified shape of the traditional Chinese bucket arch structure which also seamlessly connects with latticed frames that decorate both columns and walls.

An eclectic variety of acrylic window and door shapes in various sizes, colours, and also intricate configurations, are used as decorative dividers for this open plan store. Furnishings and fixtures comprise a mix of benches and display tables inspired by traditional Chinese furniture and distinctly modern pieces. A selection of carefully sourced stone lions and face masks, emblematic for Chinese culture, adorn the premises and add to the carefully constructed visual layering of the new Luxemporium store. The flooring, consisting of large terrazzo tiles in a neutral shade, not only allows the colourful interventions to pop, but also ties in all of the store’s different sections.
