The Portuguese capital may be a great place for plenty of reasons, but it’s hardly known for being a destination of choice for in-the-know shoppers. Well, that’s about to change. It’s in Marvila, an industrial seaside neighbourhood of Lisbon dotted with large and sometimes derelict warehouses, where the TEM-PLATE store has opened its doors. The arrival of the retail space is indicative of the area’s transformation into a favoured location of various creative industries. Founded by Rune Park and Robby Vekemans, two seasoned fashion professionals with a combined background in fashion PR, sales, marketing and management across the Old Continent and beyond, TEM-PLATE occupies a voluminous hangar-like space. It features a matching interior design by Berlin-based architecture practice Gonzalez Haase. Given the latter’s work portfolio, it’s a match made in heaven, resulting in settings that retain the building’s original utilitarian edge yet at the same time add distinctly contemporary layerings.
The latter is achieved by way of a hybrid palette of polished metal surfaces, large swathes of mirror, and hardboard clad in a silvery coating. The lofty retail space is furnished with a variety of chunky, hybrid pieces that serve both as partitions and shelving, alternated mostly by sleek metal stools and tables, and a striking installation-like circular rail attached to floor-to-ceiling poles. The entire setting is framed by a coffered ceiling, overlaid with utility pipes and rows of tubular lighting, and which adds up to TEM-PLATE‘s strong and intentional art gallery feel. Aiming to accommodate a global fashion-forward crowd, the store carries men’s and women’s items by an appealing mix of top brands and edgy labels, including Comme des Garçons, Haider Ackermann, Heron Preston, Palm Angels, sacai and JW Anderson. Along with the launch of the physical store in Lisbon, a Farfetch-hosted web shop has been launched to accommodate customers that reside elsewhere.

Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
