Lea Colombo (1993) is a self-taught South African artist hailing from Cape Town. Being a creative nomad, Colombo’s work as a photographer and director has cemented her place among the most influential global fashion names, whilst her profile as a fine artist also rapidly gains clout. The South African artist is recognised for her bold and saturated style which examines the values and connections between colour, light and emotion. Also, her art reflects her personality and she’s unafraid to push boundaries. Opening on Thu – Oct 20 at 3537, the hybrid new retail space of Comme des Garçons in Paris, is Colombo’s second solo exhibition. Entitled A Downwards Evolution, the show was inspired by the artist’s awareness that we’re moving into an age of illumination where the old ways are making way for the new.
Guided by a strong spiritual conviction, Colombo wants to encourage people to reset their ways of thinking and to go deeper, listen to their own instinct, question themselves, and most importantly, to be in allowance. The exhibition examines Colombo’s primal connection with her own creative consciousness and the ‘infinite divine energy of the universe that supports us all – if we’d only tap into it’. The artist does this through an explosive new approach to colour, shape, sound and earth energy. Coinciding with the opening is the launch of Colombo’s first limited edition art book, titled Colours of My Body. The book is a self-exploration and a radical rebellion to the beauty standards of the fashion world.

Publishers Note
Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
