Founded almost two decades ago, footwear brand VEJA has gone leaps and bounds ever since, gaining a global an avid following with its sneakers made from organic and sustainable materials. The company initially entered the retail arena with three Centre Commercial concept stores across Paris, but is now raising its profile with the very first VEJA boutique. Occupying an 80 sqm. (861 sq.ft.) ground floor unit of a late 19th century building in the heart of the city’s Marais district. The company tapped local architecture firm ciguë to create a matching interior design, and this resulted in a setting which has been entirely stripped. The existing understated façade, created for the previous tenant by Israeli architect Raphael Navot, was left intact out of appreciation of his work, and the same counts for the lacquered timber flooring. Interventions have been kept to a minimum, comprising merely of boxy displays, crafted from plaster and compressed recycled paper, matching white shelving and alcoves. . As said, the walls and ceiling are exposed, revealing blotchy limestone alternated by sections dipped in pristine white. The space is divided in three sections, each presenting a different segment of VEJA‘s collection: the main collection, running, and kids.
