With over 30 years of experience in the fashion industry under his belt, Maurizio Donadi knows a thing or two about denim, clothes manufacturing, and last but not least, the inevitable excess that comes with it. It’s the latter problem that has inspired him to set up Atelier & Repairs in 2015 in collab with business partner and wife Marisa Ma, another professional with a background in both the fashion and entertainment industries. Based in London and Los Angeles, the new venture aims to work with individuals and scale with companies and their brands that strive to find solutions for the aforementioned excess and adopt a sustainable business model instead. In September of last year, Atelier & Repairs launched a shop-in-shop at the newly opened Fred Segal flagship on Sunset Boulevard, followed by others at Magasin in Culver City and The Piece Collective in Venice.

The retail outposts allowed shoppers to immerse themselves in the company’s philosophy and try on a variety of unisex apparel items. Accelerating its exposure to target demographic of early adopters in the Los Angeles area, Atelier & Repairs has now launched a standalone showroom and gallery space, just off bustling Melrose Avenue. Situated in a modest wooden structure, the venue lives up to its name, showcasing not only a wider selection of apparel items, but also interacting with both shoppers and brands, as they’re able to drop off beloved or forgotten garments for repair and reworking, and give them a new lease on life. Mind you, the service also includes customisation and embellishment, providing the even the most discerning of clients a unique look.
