Founded in 2014 by designers Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo, the SUNNEI brand set out to create contemporary menswear, but steering clear from the classic silhouettes which everyone else at home base Milan would adhere to, and instead, create well-cut garments with a distinct street cred element embedded. Needless to say, SUNNEI‘s quirky aesthetic quickly caught on, and not only in Italy, but also with young fashion crowds across the planet. Since 2015 the brand has operated from its workshop-slash-store in Città Studi, a non-descript suburb far removed from the prestige and glitter of the high-profile boutiques in the Duomo shopping district. Obviously, the brand’s fanbase has found its way to the store. Initially established here in order to connect with the local community through events and special projects, it has evolved to the hybrid venue it is today.

Hot on the heels of the launch of its first womenswear collection, SUNNEI has expanded to the ground floor unit next door and revamped the premises and once again tapped Studio Modulo, a local practice which designed the store’s first lay-out, to create new settings. The original whitewashed ground floor is now home to the menswear collection, and the giant black hole in the wall with polyurethane foam edge, previously leading to a meeting room, has been retained, The space next door is now entirely dipped in a grey hue, and presented on floor-to-ceiling glass shelving are the men’s and women’s accessories. The basement section has become an all-blue domain and presents SUNNEI‘s range of women’s apparel, but it will also host the brand’s parties and other events. Adding to the store’s young and happening vibe is a small section dedicated to indie magazines, all selected by cult bookshop Reading Room.
