The arrival of Kim Jones at Dior has without doubt signalled a new era for the iconic fashion house’s men’s collections. Savvy and well-connected to urban culture and its endless list of who’s who, Jones has already pulled some strings to spice up Dior‘s menswear offerings. However, it’s all executed with measure, and more importantly, the house’s heritage is acknowledged at the same time. The release of Dior’s Perforated Cannage Men’s Bags, part of the S/S 2019 Men’s Collection, is a perfect example of clever tweaking. The Perforated Cannage line was first introduced by designer Christian Dior (1905-1957), and takes cues from the Napoléon III-style chairs that seated clients during haute couture shows. For Summer 2019, the use of the Cannage motif reflects a fusion of the couture and the contemporary: laser-cutting and is combined with meticulous handwork, resulting in a range of must-have items. The line includes two bags in perforated leather: a weekend bag and shopper, both available in black and a natural tan colour. Inside, printed with the emblematic bee reimagined by none other than Kaws, a canvas pouch holds and protects items such as a laptop, books or clothing.
