It has been a while since FOTT, an influential multi-brand store in the Russian capital, closed its doors. Having introduced many a leading brand in an appealing modern setting, it has nurtured and groomed a sizeable demographic of young Muscovites into brand adulthood. Needless to say, the shop closure left a void in Moscow‘s retail landscape. Very recently, Sergei Tanin, one of FOTT‘s co-founders, joined forces with Konstantin and Alexei Mikhailov, the founders of activewear retail chain Trayektoria, to set up a new retail concept which straddles the realms of streetwear and activewear. Simply called Peak, the store occupies 792 sqm. (8,525 sq.ft.) set across three floors of a 19th-century building alongside bustling Petrovskiy Bulvar in the heart of the city. The interior design, created by architect Maria Katchalova of local practice Auroreº, flaunts a stark contrast with the building’s storied past, and is distinctly contemporary and understated, and with whimsical touches.

The spacious ground floor, Peak‘s primary retail space, sees a backdrop of exposed bricks, stone tile flooring and a ceiling covered in black steel panels, and is furnished shelving and displays crafted from repurposed wood and steel, additional displays in plexiglass, and colourful rugs. The premises are dotted with backlit imagery of the outdoors and objects taken from nature which signal store’s style focus. Mind you, Peak also aims to be more than just a store where to purchase your next trophy item, offering a platform for likeminded urban spirits. As such, it has turned the upper floor into a gallery space with a rotating programme of events, while downstairs in the basement both a café and cycling studio are to open shortly. Obviously, Peak‘s men’s and women’s offerings are tightly curated, featuring a slew of coveted international brands, and currently includes coveted names such as Engineered Garments, Perks and Mini, Nike, Proenza Schouler, Billionaire Boys Club and Hyke.
