Since its foundation by entrepreneur Hideo Koide little over fifty years ago in the provincial Japanese town of Hikone, KINTO has gradually evolved from a wholesaler to a manufacturer of contemporary homeware and tableware. With style, comfort, reusability, and durability as its brand values, KINTO creates a product range that aims to forges a genuine bond with its clients, and consequently, the brand features stores that effortlessly convey these creeds. Following the opening of branded retail spaces in Tokyo and Los Angeles, the company has recently opened up shop on the U.S. East Coast. Occupying a lofty, 930 sq.ft. (approx. 86 sqm.)  unit on the ground floor of an acclaimed red brick residential building by architecture and interior design practice Roman and Williams, the flagship store features an interior design by Los Angeles-based design practice Studio MAI which also designed KINTO‘s first retail space stateside.

The chosen aesthetic, captured by furnishings and fixtures crafted from aromatic rough sawn Cedar and Western Red Cedar, is clean and understated. A gazebo-like construction of beams and poles, incorporating shelving on which products are showcased, underpins the design theme, but also adds an intentional rustic edge, rendering the retail space a tranquil refuge away from Manhattan‘s often frantic hustle and bustle. Lush potted plants dot the premises and further boost the soothing shopping atmosphere. The new KINTO flagship store stocks the brand’s full range of products, including coffeeware, teaware, tumblers, vases and other tableware collections. Additionally, the brand’s new artisanal TERRA tableware collection will be available here as well. © superfuture.com
