At long last, madhappy‘s long-awaited store – yes indeed, we’re talking a permanent one – has opened its doors in New York City. The cult streetwear brand occupies 167 sqm. (1,800 sq.ft.) set across two levels on the premises of a five-storey red brick building in the city’s Nolita neighbourhood. The interior design sees a renewed collaboration with PLAYLAB, INC., a Los Angeles-based design studio, once again featuring an understated yet playful settings infused with colour. On the ground floor, one side is retail space, while directly opposite, madhappy‘s café concept PANTRY, which was first introduced at the brand’s permanent store in Los Angeles, holds court with a timber clad counter, blue-tinted concrete flooring, a crescent-shaped modular sofa in a matching hue, and last but not least, a rotating and eclectic menu of drinks and bites.

Shoppers can choose from coffee concoctions from Tokyo-based cult brand Hotel Drugs, juices from Toms Juice, and a selection of Sofreh‘s Persian pastries. The retail section features an all-metal backdrop with matching fixtures, in addition to a rectangular volume, which in fact serves as a skylight for the store’s basement section. An all-blue environment, the setting is anchored by faux rock bench – in matching blue, obviously – flanked on three sides by metal shelving and clothing racks. The adjacent fitting room comes with rock seating. The new madhappy store carries the brand’s full range of men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, footwear, eyewear, in addition to a special store-exclusive capsule collection to commemorate the store opening. © superfuture
