With British-born designer Maximilian Davis at the creative helm since 2022, Ferragamo has seen a dramatic transformation which has put the luxury brand firmly back in the global limelight. Needless to say, this regained relevance in fashion’s upper echelon has also had an effect on its presence in the global retail arena, and as of late, Ferragamo‘s women’s boutique on Via Montenapoleone, arguably Milan‘s most prestigious shopping artery, has seen a striking makeover by Antwerp-based designer Vincent Van Duysen. The store, first opened in 1939, and as such, one of the fashion house’s historic boutiques, occupies a 280 sqm. (3,014 sq.ft.) spread across a sequence of rooms on the ground floor of Palazzo Carcassola Grandi. The imposing building was originally erected in the 15th century and redesigned in the early 19th century, and the store’s interior design elegantly embeds some of the building’s original architectural elements, notably the Doric-inspired columns and beautiful vaulted ceilings. As such, the selected palette of materials and hues seamlessly adapt to the building’s architecture, yet at the same time, offer a subtle contemporary visual contrast.

The Venetian stucco walls, the stone floors, and the ceilings are in a range of very light, warm colours, a barely hinted-at cream. Mottled marble slabs are red, founder Salvatore Ferragamo‘s favourite colour, and the grand mirrors, in clean-lined bronze frames, optically enlarge the retail space. Offering another subtle contrast are armchairs, tables, and display cases, all featuring soft, rounded edges. A veritable eye-catcher is an intricately crafted ceramic wall installation and a matching table created by designer Andrea Mancuso. The renewed Ferragamo store has been concepted as an alluring home with various rooms for shoppers to explore, each presenting different segments of the women’s collection. The elevated shopping experience is also upheld by other curated furnishings, such as upcycled stools and ottomans by JoAnn Tan and Andrea Anastasio‘s collection of tables. Mind you, the store also comes with a cozy lounge where shoppers can sit back to ponder over their next purchase, in addition to a separate rooms for the brand’s silk product range. © superfuture.com
