Small yet spectacular—at only 8 sqm. (86 sq.ft.), flame moscow‘s latest retail space can hardly be called roomy, but what it may lack in space, the store makes up with a meticulously crafted grandeur that befits its artisanal merchandise. As a niche perfumery studio, flame moscow has carved a niche position in the home market with handcrafted fragrances, home scents and body care products. Following the opening of a flagship store in the Khamovniki area of the Russian capital, the niche brand has set up shop this second retail space across downtown in an emerging pocket within the Basmanniy neighbourhood. Designed by local architect Elena Lokastova, the space is designed with utmost precision as its dimensions needed it to be extremely functional and maintain high aesthetic standards at the same time. Upon entering the tiny space, shoppers find themselves flanked by floor-to-ceiling storage space featuring shelving in a hyper-slanted design.

Additionally, they’re appended on only one side to prevent reduction of the layout area. The panels of the front display case conceal plenty—an electrical control room, air-conditioning units, storage, personal storage space, a consulting chair, and even a bathroom sink. The meticulous attention to detail extends to lighting as well. The monolithic counter serves both as a cash register and a packing area, while a stalactite-like shape protruding from the ceiling not only serves as an aesthetic element, but also is a functional lamp fixture. The deep red glossy monochrome setting is made of veneer and is a nod to atmosphere of an old library marked by gothic vertical lines and with reflections of flames from a fireplace reflected the walls. The veneer’s unapologetically glossy finish aims to enhance the geometry through reflection. The new flame moscow store stocks the full range of fragrances, home scents and body care products. © superfuture
