Following stints at some of Copenhagen‘s finest dining establishments, such as Atelier September, Psyche Café and Noma, Warsaw-born chef Mati Pichci took matters in his own hands and established a hospitality haven of his own. Inaugurated a little while ago. AMATOR is café, a restaurant, and a venue for private dinners rolled into one, and is nestled in Østerbro, an increasingly fashionable neighbourhood in the Danish capital. Occupying a modest 50 sqm. space on the ground floor of a former residential building erected in 1870, AMATOR features an interior design by Poznań-based architecture practice wierciński-studio. As AMATOR‘s foundation is a laid-back hospitality concept, the chosen aesthetic is homely and intimate, oozing a living room vibe. A communal table, made up of several small tables, takes centre stage and is paired with sturdy oak stools.

Minimal gaps between the table tops give the impression of separate tables, but by pulling out steel rings, they can be combined into one large dinner table. Mind you, the entire space is dotted with custom furniture designed by Adam Wierciński in his signature style—simple, geometric constructions made of raw steel, showing visible signs of handcrafting, are combined with solid, natural oak. The materials in their authentic form provide the interior’s colour palette, and symbolically reflect Pichci’s honest cuisine. And speaking of which, Pichci’s favourite dish, the classic omelet, is the centrepiece and iconic item on the menu. During the day, AMATOR serves breakfasts and lunches, offering light and tasty dishes based on seasonal vegetables, while in the evening private and corporate dinners are held. © superfuture
