Two years after the revamp of the SVRN store in Chicago, an event we’ve covered in a previous post, a new branch has opened its doors in San Francisco. The standalone store occupies 2,153 sq.ft. (200 sqm.) spread across two disjointed early 1920s buildings, and rubs shoulders with the boutiques of peers from fashion and lifestyle, such as rag & bone, Byredo, Frame, Diptyque, Rachel Comey and Le Labo. The interior design sees a renewed collaboration with WGNB, a spatial design practice based in Seoul, and it’s one which has been challenged to offer a coherence despite the building’s hillside location, different floor levels and ceiling structures. An elliptical loop, crafted from a striking oxidised green copper, elegantly weaves through the premises.

It’s a playful nod to the heavy Corten steel used at SVRN‘s store in the Windy City. Unsurprisingly, the design incorporates ramps that mimic the city’s iconic hills. These ramps allow for a seamless navigation, while the gradual rise in floor levels gives the space a distinct topographical feel, ensuring that shoppers can access every area of the store.Another focal point in the setting is the omnidirectional POS fixture, which has a multifunctional purpose, serving as a checkout counter, display platform, and bench. The volume is designed with a reflective finish, capturing natural light from the skylights and offering a continuous flow of movement, it incites shoppers to engage with products from all angles.

Wall-mounted shelves are intended to serve as a rack, presenting SVRN’s rotation of seasonal collections. Embedded in WGNB‘s design process is a sustainability drive, and as a result, there has been a focus on salvaging and repurposing existing architectural elements. Skylights, wooden beams, and rafters from the original buildings have been preserved and blackened to retain the heritage of the site. The new SVRN store stocks a tightly curated range of men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, shoes and lifestyle items by leading fashion-forward brands from across the planet, including Fear of God, Marni, Paolina Russo, Homme Plissé ISSEY MIYAKE, Acne Studios and Dries Van Noten. © superfuture
