Fashion history repeats itself—Courrèges recently inaugurated its second boutique stateside, and this time on the West Coast. The Paris-based fashion house, fully revived since 2020 under the creative direction of Nicolas Di Felice, has picked South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa to open up shop, the very same location where it launched a boutique in its 1970s heyday. The Courrèges store occupies a 1,200 sq.ft. (112 sqm.) unit on Level 2, rubbing shoulders with boutiques of peers from the world of fashion and lifestyle, such as Gentle Monster, Missoni, Alexander Wang, BYREDO and Palm Angels. Similar to all Courrèges stores, the interior design has the signature of Belgian architect Bernard Dubois, featuring an understated all-white setting with chrome pillars, mirrored ceilings and dressing rooms.

At the entrance, shoppers are ushered in by two rows of modular, floor-to-ceiling mirror panels which also appear in singular form elsewhere on the premises. Furniture and fixtures are in a matching white hue, creating an almost surreal, calming atmosphere. In the middle of the retail space sits a large volume which serves as a sales counter and a cabinet for jewellery and accessories, and ties in with the display units lining the walls. Decorative mirror panels in the fitting rooms section at the far end of the store balance out the setting’s splendour. The new Courrèges boutique carries both women’s and men’s apparel, in addition to accessories, eyewear, bags, jewellery pieces and shoes. © superfuture
