Boutique hotel chain Bunkhouse Hotels has made its debut in Houston, opening a new property in Montrose, a lively downtown neighbourhood. Called Hotel Saint Augustine, it occupies a modern low-rise brick building and features 71 rooms and suites. Situated on Museum Row, adjacent to The Ménil Collection, arguably the city’s leading art venues, the interior design has been created in collaboration with New York City-based interior design practice Post Company. Interestingly, it takes cues from Franco-American tycoon and art collector Jean de Ménil and his wife Dominique whose lives are inextricably linked to the museum. The pair started collecting art in the 1940s and have since built a sizeable and varied art collection, which eventually led to the opening of the art venue in 1987.

As a result, the Hotel Saint Augustine premises see an infusion of artistic expressions, captured by striking, saturated colours, reflective materials, and unexpected shapes to build an artful experience. The lobby is a welcoming intimate oasis, and unsurprisingly, mimics a curator’s artful home. The setting is anchored by a burled walnut and Calacatta Viola marble reception desk and a backdrop comprising a floor-to-ceiling red lacquered shelving unit filled with both artistic objects and merchandise. Catering to today’s savvy traveller with a penchant for art, the rooms not only offer all the luxury comfort and amenities, but do so with with a style that blends modernity and elements from a bygone era. Varying 560 sq.ft. (52 sqm.)  to 600 sq.ft. (56 sqm.), the Atelier King Suite is Hotel Saint Augustine‘s biggest pad, and ideal for those who love to live large.

Obviously, it offers extras for the ultimate self-indulgence, such as a king bed, a parlour with wet bar, a bathroom with shower, freestanding tub and separate toilet and private outdoor space. Needless to say, the hotel comes with facilities in matching style which further boost the sense of sumptuous hospitality. The artsy setting of the Augustine Lounge with deep-blue walls and Fireclay onyx tile flooring playfully guises its laid-back bistro concept. Here, guests and visitors can indulge in a menu of simple, tasty bites, cocktails, wines and other beverages.
