Following last year’s closure of its first ever retail space in Munich‘s leafy Schwabing district, cult men’s clothing brand A Kind of Guise has returned to its home base with an alluring new retail space downtown. The brand has secured a 140 sqm. (1,507 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a historic commercial building complex locally known as Luitpoltblock, which was previously home to a Missoni boutique. Considerably more spacious and in a more prestigious shopping area, the A Kind of Guise in-house design team has gone the extra yard to make a retail statement that’s matching its increasingly grown global appeal, and as such, its stature in fashion land. Collaborating with local design practices Studio Corso and OHA, the retail space is very much a modern men’s boudoir, featuring contemporary settings with a cheeky whiff of a style era gone by.

The chosen palette, thoughtful yet eclectic, is sourced locally and from across Europe, comprising Swiss pear wood and European oak, accented with Rosso Alicante and Emperador dark marble from Spain. The design effortlessly evokes a meticulously calibrated inviting atmosphere which even extends to the fitting rooms which are crafted from oak panels and come with indirect lighting which emulate daylight. And that’s not all. Adding a decidedly homey touch an 800-litre (211 gallons) freshwater aquarium with colourful cichlids from Lake Malawi, situated right in between the fitting rooms. Adding a dynamic visual element is the grid-like ceiling design consisting of large wooden panels and embedded linear lighting. The new A Kind of Guise store carries the full range of men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, shoes, bags, small leather goods, jewellery, and eyewear. © superfuture
