Off-White is on a roll. Hot on the heels of opening a standalone boutique in London, Off-White expands yet again with a standalone store at home base Milan. Following a shop-in-shop at department store La Rinascente, this is the brand’s second retail space in the city. Occupying a 344 sqm. (3,703 sq.ft.) two-storey space in a 19th-century building on the corner of Via Bigli and Via Verri, it’s smack in the middle of the prestigious Duomo district and surrounded by flagship stores of leading fashion houses, such as Etro, Iceberg, Jil Sander and Alexander McQueen. Designed by creative director Virgil Abloh and the brand’s in-house design team, the premises are  distinctly more luxurious than most other Off-White stores yet also embed irreverent elements which characterise both its men’s and women’s collections.

The ground floor, home to the women’s collection, sees recessed tiered shelving inlaid with marble, paired with flooring of smooth travertine and alternated with soft pink carpeting featuring the brand logo. The playful modernity of the setting is further reinforced by curved wall corners, cabinets of shiny steel and glass, and last but certainly not least, a number of contrasting furnishings. Chunky stone displays and benches are paired with a robust round display table, and an actual tree trunk adds an unexpected decorative element. One floor up, the men’s domain unfolds, featuring a similar yet slightly tweaked aesthetic. Here, the carpeting comes in a green hue, and the wooden blocks used as seating tie in with the chosen design codes of the separate room where the Off-White homeware collection is presented.
