Although based in Melbourne and well-represented with twelve standalone boutiques across town, Aesop still found room to expand. The Australian cosmetics brand has added a new boutique at Melbourne Airport‘s Terminal 2 where it occupies a compact unit in the departure lounge. Designed by Aesop‘s in-house design team, the setting has a utilitarian aesthetic and sees an entrance flanked by granite-covered columns and flooring of studded rubber tiles which were initially designed by Italian manufacturer Pirelli for Milan‘s Metropolitana underground transport system. Curved edges allow a seamless extension of the tiles onto the walls, forming an unusual backdrop for suspended cabinets and shelving of brushed stainless steel. A sales counter sits in the middle of the retail space below a sleek linear pendant lamp. Arguably the most striking element of the interior are the three wash basins. A signature feature in all of Aesop‘s boutiques worldwide, and here, they’re interconnected by way of a wall-suspended panel. Additional recessed shelving allows more merchandise to be presented to shopping travellers. The new Aesop store carries the full range of skin, hair, body and home products.

Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
