When thinking of excellent wines, Portugal‘s many viticultural treasures largely remain out of the global spotlight. Porto-based Portugal Vineyards, a longtime online vendor of locally produced wines, has opened a true embassy dedicated to the country’s finest. Located in the residential Areosa neighbourhood, right next to the retailer’s headquarters, it occupies a 90 sqm. (969 sq.ft.) circular space with an understated interior design by local architecture practice Porto Architects. An all-white setting, displays and shelving are carved out of the walls in reference to the vineyard terraces, allowing the merchandise on display to pop. The shape of the store aims to instil intimacy while also allowing shoppers 360º view of the premises. An online counter space has been added, allowing a virtual tour of the warehouse where the most and least known Portuguese wines are found, and a wine-tasting zone where traditional wooden barrels are integrated in the design. Portugal Vineyards stocks a wide range of red and white wines, in addition to several ports, rum, gin, and even olive oils and vinegars, all produced in the homeland.
