Following the opening of its first boutique in Amsterdam just a few months ago, French fashion house Balenciaga has added another boutique at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The brand’s very first outpost at a major European airport is a collaborative effort with French travel retailer Lagardère Travel Retail, and follows the latest design codes as laid down by creative director Demna Gvasalia. The store, situated on the airside of the terminal in Lounge 2, is awash with raw concrete, be it unfinished or featuring a weathered quality. Interestingly, the chosen aesthetic includes the façade, setting the store apart from the generic airport surroundings. Inside, the setting sees poured concrete floor tiles, paired with walls covered in distressed concrete panels, and sections lined with sleek aluminium and glass shelving are overlaid by mottled curtains in a matching hue. Additional furnishings and fixtures are also crafted from aluminium, including cabinets and wall-mounted displays, and additionally at the back, a concrete shelving units can be found. An overarching steel grid, with industrial light fixtures attached, ties in all shop sections. The new Balenciaga store carries women’s and men’s shoes, bags, accessories, eyewear, and jewellery.
