For a luxury brand as small and niche as Byredo, it has achieved an impressive global following. London-based private equity company Manzanita Capital snapped up a majority stake in 2013, and since then Byredo hasn’t just diversified its offerings with trophy bags, jewellery pieces and sneakers, but it has also slowly expanded its retail presence to some of the planet’s most in-the-know shopping grounds. Following the opening of a boutique in New York City‘s Soho district in 2015, the Stockholm-based brand opens its second stateside retail space in West Hollywood. The new outpost occupies a 1,500 sq.ft. (139 sqm.) ground floor unit of an early 1970s structure, and quite interestingly, it shares the premises with fellow Swedish brand Acne Studios which has occupied the building’s corner location for the past two years. Similar to all other Byredo stores, the one in Los Angeles has been designed by Swedish architect Christian Halleröd, and sees beige terrazzo tile flooring and pristine white walls as a backdrop for a variety of furnishings, ranging from cabinets crafted from glass, metal and slabs of terrazzo, and a matching display table, a larger wooden cabinet, and two brightly coloured metal pieces which add visual pizzazz to the setting. A seating area demarcated by chunky wooden beams offers shoppers a place to sit back and ponder over the next purchase. The new Byredo store carries the brand’s full range of coveted fragrances, skincare products, jewellery pieces, bags, accessories and sneakers.

Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
