Along with Argentina‘s gradual but steady economic recovery, the Lomas de Núñez neighbourhood, situated in the north of the sprawling capital Buenos Aires, is increasing its stature as one of its most sought-after residential areas. The neighbourhoods transformation in recent years also comes with an improved lifestyle infrastructure, and the recent opening of NESS, a contemporary restaurant led by chef Leo Lanussol, bears witness of this trend. Lanussol’s hugely successful previous restaurant opened in 2016, but sadly had to close during the pandemic. Now, the chef has secured a 433 sqm. (4,661 sq.ft.) space on the premises of a former warehouse which sits smack in the middle of this neighbourhood.

Called NESS – mind you, it’s named after Lanussol’s ardent love for indie bands like The Ramones and Madness – the venue has been redeveloped and designed by local architecture and design practice OOAA to accommodate a bar and restaurant. The building’s minimalist industrial façade, with a number of small openings on the upper floor and three shutters on the ground floor, has been retained. To open up the structure’s interior, load-bearing walls have been replaced by metal beams and columns, while the new configuration is now centred around a new service hub. The voluminous, triple-height dining room undoubtedly is NESS‘s pièce de résistance, featuring clean, understated settings with a variety of seating arrangements.

The dining room seamlessly extends to the kitchen with its large wood-burning oven. In fact, there’s no separation, creating a true ambiance of community, staff included. Mind you, the setting even includes a live olive tree. Accordingly, the design of the furniture and smaller-scale objects have a distinct functional look, and as such, fully complement the chosen aesthetic of the restaurant. The upper floor is home to additional workspace, office space and lavatories. The bar, which can be accessed without a reservation, serves signature cocktails and light dishes. The restaurant, for which a reservation is needed, features a cosmopolitan menu of seasonal dishes with Asian influences, offering fish, meat and chicken. © superfuture
