As a city obsessed with glamour, Moscow isn’t short of top-notch places where to power shop, indulge, or sit back for superior self-care. The Moskvichka Nails salon chain already operates a number of venues across Moscow‘s sprawling metropolitan area, and continues to grow, opening its latest outpost in the city’s downtown Arbat neighbourhood. The salon occupies a 147 sqm. unit spread across two large rooms and smaller spaces on the ground floor of a late 19th-century building with an ornate façade by Austrian-Russian architect August Weber (1836-1903). The interior design, created by local architect Elena Lokastova, sees a contrasting understated aesthetic. Separated only by a glass partition from the entrance, the first room is furnished with rows of grey manicure tables paired with matching office chairs for Moskvichka Nails staff members, and soft purple chairs for clients.

A recessed seating area, in a deep red hue, adds a warm element to the setting. Large wall-mounted mirrors on either side of the room, combined with rows of suspended linear light fixtures, optically enlarge the room. A corridor in the same red hue leads to the adjacent large room where where soft blue dominates the colour palette, captured by four pedicure stations and a display unit with recessed tiered shelving unit brimming with all available nail polishes, all situated on an elevated level. Semi-transparent white curtains form an esoteric backdrop while also creating an ambiance of intimacy. Behind the niche is a passage to the open sink and restroom. Here, the material palette shifts once again, featuring polished steel and grey marble chips covering the walls, and a wash basin and faucets in a striking fluorescent green. © superfuture
