Steeped in history, splendorous architecture, and art treasures abound, one easily tends to overlook the modern pleasures of St. Petersburg. Well, that would be a mistake. Russia‘s cultural capital and second largest city may not be as dynamic and glamourous as its perennial rival Moscow, but it has its fair share of sophisticated venues where to indulge in the good life. The city has seen quite a transformation these past two decades, and even today, stylish new places continue to pop up across town. Pitching in the newest wave of design-led hotels, boutiques and restaurants are hospitality entrepreneurs Dmitriy Blinov and Renat Malikov. The duo initially started their careers as chefs, honing their skills at a string of leading restaurants before teaming up to launch a business of their own. Following the successful launch of Tartar Bar, Duo and Duo Asia, three eateries that have resonated well with both seasoned foodies and well-heeled scenesters, the young Russians have recently opened Harvest. Situated outside the historic city centre, in a non-descript 1970s building across the Neva river, the restaurant’s premises are a tranquil oasis with culinary benefits.

Created by local designer and longtime collaborator Aleksey Penyuk, the lofty and elongated dining space is defined by whitewashed walls, lacquered wooden planking and elegant modern furnishings by Artisan. At the core of the dining space an open kitchen is situated, and right next to it, a bar with comfy stools. The bar is clad in sand-coloured travertine, similar to a service station at the far end of the dining space where an eye-catching sculptural staircase leads to the second floor. Being experienced chefs, the menu at Harvest is obviously supervised by Blinov and Malikov themselves. Known for their modern approach to gastronomy, the restaurant marks another milestone as the dining concept shows their craft and vision on an even higher level. Both founders adhere to light and healthy food, and here at their newest outpost, they pair a wide variety of vegetables with plenty of fish and seafood, but also poultry and meat. Mind you, entries and mains can even be ordered with vegetables only. Obviously, the sophisticated fare is served with compatible wines, cocktails and liquors.
