Kantapon Metheekul a.k.a. Gongkan is an art director and illustrator based in New York City. Following his graduation from the Paron School of Art in the Thai capital, Gongkan has worked in both capacities for clients from home and abroad. For his latest venture, the artist has returned to Bangkok to present his first ever solo exhibition on home turf at the Warehouse 30 gallery. The show is called Teleport and the body of work on display was instigated by his relocation to New York City and the dynamics that came with it to establish oneself in a new place on more than obe level. On display are a series of paintings with the constantly morphing Teleport characters he created, emerging from a black hole – mind you, it’s symbolises a gateway that provides access to anywhere and thus new opportunities – in each new depiction (on through May 30). And that’s not all. Gongkan also has another showcase, called Life Is Too Short To Hate, at the Objects of Desire boutique (2) where his branded design products are displayed and sold on the spot (on through Jul 15).
