Although already firmly rooted in Hong Kong‘s dynamic retail scene, concept store Kapok sees room for growth, opening a sixth outpost in the city’s Causeway Bay area. The store occupies 293 sqm. (3,154 sq.ft.) set across two lower floors of a large 1960s apartment building on the crossing of Kingston and Paterson Streets in a popular shopping area known by local shopaholics as Fashion Walk. The store sees a new collaboration with between founder Arnault Castel and Collective, an architecture and design practice headquartered in the former British Crown Colony, featuring a setting which echoes Kapok‘s original flagship store in Wanchai, another popular shopping zone nearby. Donning a pristine white double-height façade, the store not only stands out from its surroundings, but also effortlessly signals its paired down interior design codes from afar. The understated settings are made up of whitewashed walls and exposed ceilings, matching shelving and displays, additional furnishings of playwood, bare cement floors, and adding a quirky touch of colour, are iridescent steel stairway furnishings on both levels. On the ground floor it doubles as a jewellery closet, and one floor up as a candle display bar. The new Kapok store carries the full range of curated men’s and women’s apparel, bags, shoes, jewellery and lifestyle goods.
