Popular coffee parlour chain Kafeterija has opened a 36th outpost in Belgrade, and this time, it’s in the city’s Voždovac neighbourhood. The company secured a 50 sqm. (538 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a historic brick building which was previously occupied by a bar, and sees an interior design by design studio KIDZ. Interestingly, the KIDZ team had been spending a lot of time at its cafés across town for both work and pleasure. This not only created a bond with the chain, but also inspired the design of this new venue which was to be not only a place where to sit back, but also get some work done. Whitewashed brick walls form the backdrop of a minimalist yet inviting design which sees a seemingly inserted framework of metal for utilities, lighting and furnishing purposes.

It’s balanced out by an infusion of warm timber, captured by a large counter, shelving, and last but not least, a variety of furnishings. Mind you, many objects in the space were assembled from what was found during the dismantling and construction process. Also, during the renovation process, elements of the original architecture were also discovered and restored, including a wooden door and a façade stained glass window, preserving the the building’s original architecture. A small outdoor terrace offers additional seating. The menu at the Kafeterija‘s newest outpost lists a large variety of coffee concoctions, made from various blends, hot chocolate, teas, beers and juices, in addition to breakfast bites, cakes, and also a number of bites for kids. © superfuture
