Originally founded in 1968 as Ça by legendary French designers Marithé and François Girbaud, the brand was renamed CLOSED for legal reasons a decade later, and the rest is pretty much history. Now headquartered in Hamburg, the CLOSED brand continues to cultivate its solid denim heritage, but now also offers other garments, accessories and footwear which resonate well with a demographic of men and women with a penchant for a contemporary wardrobe. In the realm of retail, CLOSED is also raising its profile with a growing number of design-led retail spaces, and the newly opened boutique in Amsterdam‘s leafy Oud-Zuid district bears witness to this drive to offer a more elevated shopping experience. The store, its third in the Dutch capital, measures 180 sqm. (1,938 sq.ft.) set across two floors, and features an interior design created by Ewa and Larissa Giers of Hamburg-based Studio Lansky.

The lofty ground floor sees a backdrop of sand-coloured walls with ample recessed shelving and storage space, paired with brick-pattern flooring which adds a visual dynamic. Furnishings comprise moveable display and storage carts in striking yellow and sleek metal clothing racks which tie in with the elongated sales counter and sleek stools. At the far end, a timber-clad doorway and corridor leads to the fitting rooms. By way of a matching staircase, shoppers access the upper floor where the chosen aesthetic is slightly tweaked. Here, the setting is anchored by chevron parquet flooring, while furnishings comprise a tiered metal shelving unit, a robust resin display table, a moveable metal display cart and sleek clothing racks. Seating comes in the form of chairs and stools. The new CLOSED store carries a curated selection of men’s and women’s apparel, including ample denim pieces, accessories and footwear. © superfuture
