Situated only a stone’s throw away from Casa Neutrale, the Neutrale brand’s café in Madrid‘s vibrant Chueca district that we’ve covered in a previous post, its retail space is matching exercise of aesthetics. Also designed by local architecture practice Estudio DIIR, the boutique occupies a rectangular 100 sqm. (1,076 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a four-storey residential structure built in 1900. Taking centre stage, and quite literally so, is an eight metre, cantilevered display table which, combined with a newly created parameter alongside the façade, very much determines the Neutrale store’s configuration. The aforementioned display table is anchored by an inserted double gate entirely clad in slabs of mirror and which also functions as a demarcation between the retail space and Neutrale‘s multifunctional service area.
The latter encompasses an office, bathroom, fitting room and also access to a separate and concealed storage space. Here, cabinets and shelving are set within two recessed arches. The front section, where shoppers enter the store, sees an elongated sales counter which runs parallel to the display table, sleek wall-mounted metal rails to showcase apparel pieces, and embedded in one outer corner of the parameter are two planters with lush vegetation. Although large floor-to-ceiling windows allow in floods of daylight, additional light fixtures have been installed, comprising a suspended linear light which accompanies the display table and wall lamps. The new Neutrale store carries the brand’s apparel and shoes, in addition to a curated range of accessories, eyewear, lifestyle items and books.
