Since Jarrad Smith and Ollie Cousins founded MAAP a decade ago, the tech performance wear brand – geared specifically towards cyclists – has gone leaps and bounds, spawning retail outposts at home base Melbourne and far beyond along the way. The latest so-called MAAP LaB has recently opened its doors in Hong Kong, on the ground floor of the soaring 35-storey Man Yee Building smack in the middle of the city’s bustling Central district. The interior design, created by the brand’s in-house design team in Melbourne, is clean and understated with a raw edge provided by an exposed ceiling. The industrial backdrop of MAAP LaB Hong Kong is softened by the fact that it’s dipped in a soft pink hue, which also adds a quirky playfulness to the settings. A large sales counter matches the walls and ceiling, while additional furnishings and fixtures are in contrasting hues and materials.

Given the fact that MAAP LaB Hong Kong will also be a communal space for a life around bikes, celebrating the culture, art, and progression of cycling, a sizeable and comfy seating area in matching earth tones sits at the centre of the retail space. Storage units, displays and dividers come in a dark pink, and clothing racks, and wall-mounted displays are crafted from metal. The ceiling is overlaid with rows of linear light fixtures, adding a visual dynamic to the retail space. The newly opened MAAP LaB Hong Kong stocks men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, and all collab items. Similar to all other outposts, MAAP LaB Hong Kong holds curated weekly MAAP rides across town and also maintains a roster of exclusive drops, parties and special guests. Mind you, the next outpost is to open its doors later this month in Berlin‘s happening Mitte district. © superfuture
