Already operating in the FREITAG orbit as a Singapore-based repair and expert for the past six years, Roy Soon rightfully sensed a bigger need in the savvy local market. His hometown being not only the preferred shopping grounds for local youth, but also a large contingent of young Malaysian, Thai, and most of all, Indonesian shoppers, Soon has cleverly anticipated with the recent opening of STITCHES. The shop, an emporium which exclusively stocks the popular upcycled Swiss truck tarp bags and accessories range, occupies 600 sq.ft. (approx. 56 sqm.) on the premises of a traditional shop house in Kampong Glam, a historic Muslim quarter in Singapore which, despite the presence of the magnificent Sultan Mosque, has evolved into hub of eateries, bars, cafés and boutiques. Similar to all other FREITAG retail spaces across the planet, the interior design at STITCHES features Soon’s personal take on FREITAG‘s industrial-style aesthetic.

The setting is framed by an exposed ceiling of wooden planks and beams, which lays bare utility pipes and wires, pristine white walls and polished concrete flooring. Furnishings and fixtures are few and simple, comprising merely of FREITAG‘s storage system which lines one side of the store, and opposite, a metal pegboard showcasing merchandise. In the middle of the retail space, a full-fledged work station is situated where Soon does his repairs and customisations. Storage space at the back of the store is concealed by a large mirror which not only optically enlarges the retail space, but also reflects the natural light which pours in from across the corridor. And speaking of light, tubular light fixtures, which add to the store’s intentional industrial vibe, can be found throughout the premises. The new STITCHES store stocks more than 1,000 distinctive FREITAG bags, including items of the FREITAG Reflected collection, in addition to a curated range of merchandise by other brands.
