Skateboards and Sotheby’s, an odd pairing? Well, not if you bring in Sarah Andelman. We’re talking the newly opened exhibition Attention, Fragile! at The Salon, a showcase of luxury must-haves at the newly opened French headquarters of auction house Sotheby’s in Paris. As many a seasoned shopper knows, Andelman is the founder and creative director of the legendary concept store Colette which closed its doors in 2017, and knows a thing or two about high-end brands, urban culture, and how to showcase things. And that’s exactly what she has done at Sotheby’s. For this show, the hyper savvy Andelman and her brand consultancy firm Just An Idea have rallied a string of young artists whose works are put on display – mind you, they’re also for sale – in a setting which is anchored by an infusion of skateboard culture.

Once boldly irreverent, skateboarding has now been embraced by the realms of fashion, design and music, but continues to be emblematic of urban youth culture in cities across the planet. So, what’s on display at The Salon? Well, there are works by various artists from home and abroad, such as PZ today, Inès Mélia, Katerina Jebb, Jeremy Yamamura, Lucas Beaufort, Andy Picci and Raphaël Zarka, all interspersed with a series of coveted luxury trophies (read: jewellery pieces, watched and hand bags) which are usually on sale at The Salon. And that’s not all. As the holidays are approaching fast, the showcase also features a special corner brimming with gift items, ranging from witty accessories and cups, to books and small ceramics (on through Dec 20). © superfuture
