Although already well-represented in Toronto, Aesop sees room for growth, adding a sixth store in the city’s Yorkville area. The cosmetics brand has secured a 960 sq.ft. (89 sqm.) unit on the ground floor of Minto Yorkville Park, a newly constructed high-rise condominium complex, and features an interior design by local architecture and interior design practice Odami. Taking cues from the neighbourhood’s history, architecture, and popular gathering places, the setting sees a large open area and a perimeter lined with vertical divisions which delineate the programme into smaller enclaves. Between the partitions, traditional wooden spindles, which reference the Victorian porches and staircases of many nearby houses, are now used as unconventional panelling. Dipped in a deep burgundy, the panelling gains additional visual drama. Carved out within the wall segments, three revolving cylinders, in contrasting white, showcase Aesop’s fragrance line, as well as an infusion chamber, the company’s very first nationwide. The new Aesop boutique carries the brand’s full range of skin, body and hair products, in addition to fragrances, kits & travel products and gifts.
