Cliché or not, a glass of champagne very much remains a prerequisite element of living the good life, and although Amsterdam has plenty of places where to indulge in bubbly, as of late, there’s just a single one to keep in mind. The house of Moët & Chandon has raised its profile in the Dutch capital by taking up residency in an ornate, early 18th-century canalside mansion by French architect Jean Coulon (1678-1760) which now forms an integral part of The Collection, a cluster of landmark buildings across the Dutch capital offering upscale office space. Aptly dubbed Moët & Chandon Canal House, the lofty second floor period rooms have been transformed into a swanky bar and rooms where to sip bubbly or pick up a thing or two about champagne. The interior design, a collaborative effort of local retail concept agency Buro Foelie and Swedish furniture brand Jotex, sees a variety of contemporary seating arrangements set against a storied backdrop. The Moët & Chandon Canal House was inaugurated mid-April an initially hosted guests until the sunny Easter weekend, but a second more modest run has just been announced, allowing the venue to operate once again on May 13-15 and 20-22. The first run offered a rotating programme of events, but it remains to be seen if this will be resumed as well.
