Since being snapped up by online retailer Snipes in 2013, Berlin-based sneaker store Solebox has expanded to a number of leading shopping destinations across Europe, and it’s latest outpost has opened its doors in Barcelona‘s historic El Raval neighbourhood. The store occupies an elongated space on Carrer del Pintor Fortuny, one of the area’s main thoroughfares, which was previously home to a textile printing workshop. Similar to all other Solebox stores, the interior design takes ample cues from its surroundings, and here, it’s the city’s lively mercats or outdoor neighbourhood markets. A narrow corridor, clad on one side in plastic crates and featuring steel framed cabinets filled with merchandise directly opposite, leads to the store’s inner sanctum where the mercat theme comes to life by way of various playful hawker-inspired displays with branded props that boost the market vibe to the max and additional steel-framed cabinets. The black tiles that cover the walls, displays and floor sections extend into the corridor, tying in the two sections. The new Solebox store carries the retailer’s full range of sneakers, apparel and accessories.
