Retail design is a powerful element of brand building, and teaming up with a renowned architecture practice usually is part of the marketing equation. Belgin eyewear brand KOMONO has raised its profile by dramatically revamping its flagship store at homebase Antwerp in collaboration with Berlin-based architecture practice AAS Gonzalez Haase. Known for its minimalism with a playful edge, the retail space is another exemplary design, and it’s one which makes good use of the elongated dimensions of the location. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow in floods of natural light, but also offer passers-by unobstructed views of an interior design anchored by a large tiered shelving unit which features an intricate play of vertical and horizontal lines, and all against a backdrop of a tinted U-glass wall. Sculptural display units line the windows, creating a corridor of sorts to traverse the premises. Rows of suspended tubular light fixtures are positioned as such to optically widen the retail space. The new KOMONO store carries the brand’s full range of sunglasses, optical eyewear and watches.
