Founded in Bangkok a hundred years ago as a modest seed business, Chia Tai has since gone leaps and bounds, growing into a multinational agricultural corporation with branches across Asia and the United States. The company’s Chia Tai Farm division is an innovative retail format which offers food and beverages made from fresh produce. Mind you, over 60 different vegetables and fruits are offered, such as sweet corn, pumpkin, cherry tomatoes, various types of melon, lettuce and cabbage, and home delivery service is available for most parts of the Thai capital. Taking Chia Tai Farm operations to the next level is a newly opened flagship restaurant on the premises of its head office in the Phra Khanong area of town. Situated in a new annex of the head office, sitting smack on the bustling Thanon Sukhumvit thoroughfare and the elevated tracks of BTS Sky Train‘s Green Line, the dining establishment occupies 310 sqm. (3,337 sq.ft.) and features an interior design by local practice ForX Design Studio.

Based on the farm-to-table concept, increasingly popular in Thailand and a logical extrapolation for the seed brand, the ground floor sees a market selling fresh produce, followed by the so-called Tree Bar, where fresh juices and other beverages are served, and a dining area filled with daylight thanks to large floor-to-ceiling glass all around. The second floor can be reached by a staircase, but is also connected by way of the Seed Gallery, a diagonal glass-encased corridor with low steps. The corridor not only sheds light on Chia Tai’s company history, but also presents 250 vegetable and fruit seeds captured in 4,520 suspended acrylic tablets. The upper floor of Chia Tai Farm restaurant is home to a kiosk brimming with home garden products and another dining area with a distinct garden feel. A corridor runs along an outdoor terrace to the secluded chef’s table room with sweeping views of the neighbourhood, a spot where celebrity chefs prep private dinners, but it’s also used as a food lab to create new menus.
