At long last, Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE has flung open the doors of a new flagship store dedicated exclusively to its Homme Plissé ISSEY MIYAKE line. Situated at a location in Tokyo‘s upscale shopping area Aoyama, and which it has occupied for many years, the retail space measures a generous 225 sqm. (2,422 sq.ft.) and features an interior design by acclaimed designer and longtime collaborator Tokujin Yoshioka. The interior has been fully stripped, revealing bare concrete walls, pillars, beams and some utility pipes, but specific surfaces see a full makeover, such as the floor of polished concrete and the ceiling plastered in a pristine white hue. Largely uncluttered, the Homme Plissé ISSEY MIYAKE store is furnished with sleek steel clothing racks and matching display tables, in addition to ottomans where shoppers can sit back and take in the merchandise. In a glass-encased corner of the store, machinery can be found which is used to manufacture items of this specific line, most notably a pressing machine which creates the signature pleats. The machinery are operated according to a schedule, and finished items can be readily snapped up, adding a distinctly artisanal touch to the shopping experience. The new Homme Plissé ISSEY MIYAKE carries the full men’s line, but also men’s items from the 132 5 ISSEY MIYAKE and ISSEY MIYAKE Watch lines.
