The Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store on Fifth Avenue has been a revered fixture in New York City‘s dynamic shopping landscape for many decades, but with the recent arrival of illustrious new department stores, the store has seen an accelerated number of revamps. The latest to be revealed is the men’s shoe department. Measuring no less than 8,000 sq.ft. (743 sqm.), the redevelopment is a collab between the retailer’s design team and architecture and interior design practice Highland Associates. A blackened metal and stone staircase, boasting dichroic glass, connecting the sixth and seventh floors for the first time, creating a contemporary focal point for the new shoe section along the way. Custom chandeliers uniting the large, central seating area, complete with glass merchandising screens, and dark blue gradient, mirrored columns add more visual drama and depth to the setting. As you might expect, Saks Fifth Avenue‘s newest section is sheer shoe heaven, featuring shoes and sneakers o0f a wide range of top brands, such as Alexander McQueen, Common Projects, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Dior and Valentino. And that’s not it. Several handy services are offered, including made-to-order programmes with a number of brands and there’s a shoe shining and repair station readilky at hand.
