Being one of the planet’s biggest and most sophisticated luxury markets comes with perks. All of the brands from fashion’s upper echelon go the extra yard to keep their fanbase happy, and Maison Margiela is now exception. The Paris-based fashion house has had a presence in Japan with a string of standalone boutiques and shop-in-shops for as long as we can remember, but always seeks the opportunity to further raise its profile. As of late, Maison Margiela has launched a pop-up store at Hankyu Men’s department store in Tokyo (1), one of the city’s prime destinations for a wide choice of high-end men’s collections, and it’s exclusively dedicated to the brand’s A/W 2018 men’s runway collection. As you probably know, it’s John Galliano who creatively calls the shots at the fashion house these days, and this is his first Fall/Winter collection he designed for the brand. The pop-up store setting is inspired by the Paris runway where the collection first gained the limelight, and next to the newly launched Glam Slam bag, there’ll be a selection of garments, sneakers and slippers. Another ephemeral Maison Margiela retail space will be launched in two weeks’ time at the department store’s outpost in Osaka.
