As one of Bangkok‘s biggest draws in its fast-evolving retail scene, Siam Discovery has been a benchmark for local shoppers and retailers alike since it first opened in 1973. But it’s the shopping mall’s stunning transformation two years ago – its owner Siam Piwat cleverly tapped the architecture mavens at Tokyo-based practice Nendo to do the job – that not only raised the bar in terms of a modern shopping experience for the city’s discerning shopper demographic, but also pushed the complex, and rightfully so, into the global limelight. Ever since, Siam Discovery has retained the momentum by launching matching seasonal campaigns, and very recently the latest of such endeavours has been launched on the premises. Called Summer Exploratorium, the campaign is anchored by an exhibition displaying memorable travel pictures taken by four Thai celebrities: Vogue Thailand fashion director Chalisa Viravan, Elle Men Thailand fashion editor Napat Sutithon, singer Disaya Korgotchamas of electro pop band Kidnappers, and last but not least, photographer Chayanee Chomsaengchan. As digital installation art pieces at different locations on the mall premises, their photos reflect lifestyles of a new generation that finds work-life balance and understands sustainable relationship between human and nature. The show aims to encourage visitors to get out, explore a little more of the planet, and discover one’s own style along the way. The whole concept is also interactive as shoppers are encouraged to post their travel photos on Instagram with hashtags #godiscoversummer and #siamdiscovery, and they’ll be able to win cool prizes (on through May 31).
