For the first time in 20 years, legendary graffiti artist Leonard Hilton McGurr a.k.a. Futura will exhibit new works in Tokyo. Following his Command Z show two decades ago, his current one at The Mass gallery in Harajuku is entitled Generation Z as a nod to the generation which came about around that time. The exhibition presents four different kinds of sculptures and 27 specially-commissioned canvas works, all created exclusively during a residency in Japan earlier this year. Prior to the show, Futura recently revealed a new life-size FL-001 sculpture as part of this presentation. Alongside the artist’s new work, photographs by his son Timothy McGurr a.k.a. 13th Witness, as well as a collab work on canvas with New York City-based graffiti artist Stash are exhibited. In celebration of the exhibition, Futura has also collaborated with popular Japanese streetwear brand Neighborhood on a ceramic FL-001 incense burner. Available in an edition of only 100 pieces, these have been released the brand’s flagship store in Tokyo and online in their web shop (on through Dec 15).
