Ace Hotel Toronto opened its doors last summer – mind you, we covered the property in previous post –and already the property’s considerable fun factor got bumped up a notch. We’re talking the recent inauguration of Evangeline, the hotel’s new bar and lounge on the top floor. Designed by lauded Toronto-based practice Shim-Sutcliffe Architects with interiors by Atelier Ace, the hotel chain’s affiliated New York City-based design studio, the venue seats a total of 80 guests. The lofty bar and lounge is anchored on either side by fireplace, one of which is framed by sculptural ceramic works created specifically for the space by Montreal-based artist David Umemoto, and sees cosy Mid-century modern-inspired seating areas furnished a tightly curated and varied selection of sofas, chairs and tables.

A number of large rugs and potted plants add to Evangeline‘s homey vibe. Local design studio MSDS also custom-crafted light fixtures for the space. And that’s not all. When weather permits, guests can mingle and cavort on the outdoor terrace with sweeping views of the city. Similar to the hotel’s ground floor facilities, Evangeline is helmed by award-winning chef-partner Patrick Kriss. The menu lists various signature cocktails, wines and gourmet snacks. The bar and lounge aims to be a destination in its own right. As such, it has partnered with DJs, record labels, dance party producers and others to offer a rotation of events, while it also plans to host exhibitions by various Canadian artists.
