Since Haneda Airport, the Japanese capital’s original international air hub, started to regain a sizeable number of prized international flights by both leading Japanese and international airlines, it got a new lease on life in many respects, including airport retail. With the soaring increase of travel to destinations abroad and tax free shopping, the airport needed to up the ante and a number of luxury brands have recently set up shop. The latest arrival is Louis Vuitton which will officially inaugurate its standalone boutique in Terminal 3 on Tue – Nov 1. The retail space is designed by the luxury behemoth’s in-house design team, featuring many of its signature design fixtures mixed and matched with Japanese elements.

As such, the material palette includes Japanese paper, stone, leather, brass, and hand-installed plaster walls. Adding a homey vibe to the settings are a number of carefully curated artworks by various Japanese and international artists, including a striking ‘smudge’ work by digital artist du jour Kenta Cobayashi in the men’s section. A ceiling cut-out features graphics inspired by the universe, and not only ties in with the boutique’s façade design, but also infuse the setting with a playful dose of colour. The new Louis Vuitton boutique carries a selection of women’s and men’s apparel, accessories, shoes, bags, luggage pieces, jewellery and watches, and fragrances.
