As a leafy enclave with an abundance of top greens, it isn’t surprising Malbon has recently set up shop in Carmel. The cult golf brand has secured a 593 sq.ft. (55 sqm.) unit at San Carlos Square, a low-rise complex of apartments and shops smack in the middle of town. The interior design, once again created by Los Angeles-based design practice 22RE, takes ample cues from the seaside town’s surrounding landscape with its lush Cypress and Douglas fir trees, but also references the spirit of the great outdoors. The Malbon retail space sees a warm and inviting backdrop of wood and travertine paneling, paired with herringbone Zia tiles and immaculately plastered walls dipped in Portola’s bright Brooks Roman Clay hue. The timber furnishings and fixtures not only signal bespoke craftsmanship, but also elevate the shopping experience. A vintage Celestia pendant lamp by Italian husband-and-wife designers Tobia and Afra Scarpa adds a playful element to the setting, while the dressing room, clad entirely in tiles, features Foglia sconces by Studio Tetrarch for Valenti, adding a sculptural modern element to this secluded nook of the store. The new Malbon store stocks a curated selection of brand’s men’s and women’s apparel, shoes, headwear, bags, and obviously, golf attributes. © superfuture
