If there’s one global fashion capital where a presence is relevant for any brand, it’s got to be Paris. That’s certainly what Russian jewellery designer Natalia Bryantseva is thinking. Following the opening of overseas retail spaces in Berlin and Almaty, the young creative has opened the doors of a pop-up store for her brand Avgvst in the alluring French capital. Initially, the ephemeral space could only be accessed by fashion professionals, but from Mon – Mar 4 it’ll be open to the general public for almost the entire month. Situated at Palais Royal, the former 17th-century palatial abode of French statesman Cardinal Richelieu, the ephemeral retail space sees a renewed collaboration with designer Harry Nuriev of architecture and design practice Crosby Studios. Dubbed The Fountain, the compact premises are inspired by the notion of a fountain as a repository of memories, a place where they’re both conserved and brought back to life.
An actual fountain, albeit embedded in a distinctly modern furnishing, sits in the centre of the retail space, and is a nod to the tapestry Woman bathing surrounded by attendants, created around 1500 by an anonymous master, which hangs in Musée de Cluny in Paris. The walls of the Avgvst retail space are covered in mirrors strewn with drawings which look as if they’ve been created by visitors over hundreds of years. The decorations are a motley mix of cave paintings, urban graffiti, scribbles on the walls of the notorious Berghain naight haunt in Berlin, Latin epigraphy, and revolution slogans. So, what’s in store? The aforementioned fountain serves as a display for the silver pieces from the new Avgvst x Crosby Studios collab collection which comprises a study of coins and furniture of the past, in addition to its A/W 2024 Collection of silver and gold jewellery and the Avgvst Berlin collection. © superfuture.com
