The retail scene in Moscow has seen a significant shake-up in recent years, seeing slew of homegrown brands expand and take centre stage. Founded by designer Aleksandra Krykbayeva, womenswear brand Sashaskvo has recently raised its profile in the city, opening its first ever store in the downtown Presnenskiy district. Situated on the premises of a newly opened residential high-rise complex, the Sashaskvo store occupies a 115 sqm. (1,238 sq.ft.) unit with two entrances on the ground floor and features an interior design by architects Roman Gulyaev and Maria Tsakharias of local architecture practice RMMSH. The space has been designed with consideration of a major restriction and challenges, being two load-bearing walls at the centre of the space which could not be removed, while a warehouse and fitting rooms needed to created next to retail space. Interestingly, the warehouse could be implemented thanks to a nifty storage system that rises up three metres towards the ceiling.

Reflecting Sashaskvo‘s elegant classic silhouettes and theatrical touches, red is a prominent hue, captured by a number of furnishings and fixtures, and offset by a backdrop of pristine white walls. The red hue, largely in a marbled version, covers many an element, from panels to arches, and from fixtures to furnishings. In stark contrast, the fitting rooms and bathroom are dipped in a more intimate dark graphite colour. Given the fact that the Sashaskvo retail space needed to make a statement, the furnishings, obviously all custom-made, have a striking appearance and add to the design narrative. A striking design element is the kinetic chandelier with different colour modes and matching kinetic theatre curtain in the shop window, adding even more visual oomph to the setting. The new Sashaskvo store carries the brand’s full range of apparel and swimwear collections.© superfuture
