Founded in 1988 by Akira Onozuka, a designer who previously honed his skills at renowned fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE, his very own ZUCCa brand has since become a fixture in Japan‘s fashion landscape. ZUCCa has a string of stores in cities nationwide, but also an increasing number abroad. Taiwan is one of the markets where ZUCCa has resonated well, and following a standalone store in Tainan, the brand has opened a shop-in-shop in the capital city Taipei. Occupying a glass-encased unit on the second floor of FEDS Xinyi A13, a popular shopping centre in the city’s leafy Xinyi neighbourhood, it’s flanked by the retail spaces of peers from the upper echelon of fashion and lifestyle, such as Y-3, Vivienne Westwood, Longines, Swarovski and Polo Ralph Lauren.

The interior design, created by Tokyo-based architecture practice Moment Inc., builds on a fixed format in which a central volume anchors the setting, and this retail space is no exception. Here, the volume is angular, envelops one of the building’s support pillars, and is clad with silvery zinc plates. The volume is engraved on three sides with the brand name. Another volume, elongated, pristine white, and embedding a sales counter on one end, forms a visual backdrop, and ties in with two displays in the same colour. Additional furnishings and fixtures include sleek metal clothing racks and a rectangular ottoman as seating. The new ZUCCa store carries a select range of women’s apparel, accessories and bags. © superfuture
