Entrepreneur Nikolai Bogdanovich founded his fashion label Monochrome in 2015, and with the help of his significant other and the brand’s creative director Alisa Boha, the company quickly gained a large following, opening stores in three of Russia’s leading cities along the way. As of late, Bogdanovich has launched a totally new retail concept and brand called Tears Of which is very much a pet project which sheds light on his personal style and lifestyle preferences. The entrepreneur secured a 50 sqm. (538 sq.ft.) on the ground floor of a 14-storey residential building from the early 1970s in a leafy pocket of Moscow‘s downtown Presnenskiy district. The interior design, created by local architecture practice RoomDesignBüro, oozes a mix of Mid-century modern architectural style and elements of Americana culture.

Outside, a faux cinema canopy and landscaped garden with terrace beckons shoppers from afar. Upon entering the Tears Of retail space, a small café section unfolds, featuring a backdrop comprising a floor-to-ceiling wooden shelving unit laden with books on one side, and behind the sales and service counter, another shelving unit features two coffee machines, bottles and glasses. Seating comprises a low bench with grid-motif sides which corresponds with the aforementioned counter. And if you’d care to know, the menu here is concise, listing only classic coffee concoctions and soft drinks. Two bare concrete pillars, part of the building’s shell, have been embedded in the setting. When advancing further into the Tears Of store, it’s timber all around.

Shelving and display units line the walls, seamlessly integrating two fitting rooms and large speakers as well. Taking centre stage in this glorified man cave setting is a display table and comfy leather sofa, backed up by a full-fledged DJ booth, and flanked by a side table and two design chairs. Similar to the front section, the flooring features small decorative tiles, tying in both areas. Next to the merchandise on display, the store is dotted with a number of personal memorabilia of Bogdanovich and nods to American culture, such as a tennis racket and a series of decorative branded skate decks. The new Tears Of retail space stocks a tightly curated selection of men’s apparel, accessories, books and vinyl records. © superfuture
